Zhang Jiyuan is the key architect and a founding partner of Atelier Alter. She received her Bachelor of Architecture from The Cooper Union School of Architecture, her Master of Architecture in Urban Design form Harvard University and is a licensed architect in the State of New York.
Her recent ongoing research explores architecture and urbanization in rural China under the cultural influence of the Silk Roads. In her architectural practice, she has always maintained a high degree of enthusiasm for exploring the boundaries of contemporary architectural language, trying to interpret architecture from the critical analysis of the site, starting from the opposing perspective of the relatively single modern construction model, returning history to the humanistic whole, and reintroducing construction into architecture. Most of the completed projects are public buildings related to culture and community, such as Qujing Five Museums Project, Beijing Polytechnic Cultural and Sports Center Project, Guangxi Elderly Activity Center, Yingliang Archives, Wuli Spring and Autumn Pan Culture and Arts Center and Yingliang Fossil Museum, which have won a number of international awards and widespread social attention and recognition, and won the Best Of Year Award in the United States, the Prospective Trophy Awards in Hong Kong, and the A” Design Gold Award in Italy in 2019. In 2018, she won the German National Award, tucker Design Awards Natural Stone Design Award, etc. In addition to the practical field, Atelier Alter has been invited to participate in many exhibitions and lectures at home and abroad.
